GLOBAL HIGHLIGHTS OF
ELDERLY CARE FACILITIES
JUNE 2020
Summary
Elderly care facilities and the silver economy worldwide
World’s older
population grows dramatically
The world’s
older population continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. This report
examines the demographic, health and socioeconomic trends accompanying the
growth of the ageing population.
Older people
are a rapidly growing proportion of the world’s population, People are living
longer, but that does not necessarily mean that they are living healthier. The
increase in our ageing population presents many opportunities and also several
public health challenges that we need to prepare for. We provide the best
possible data so that we can better understand the course and implications of
population ageing.
A new Aging
World contains a lot of detailed information about life expectancy, gender
balance, health, mortality, disability, health care systems, labour force
participation and retirement, pensions and poverty among older people around
the world.
Many
countries in Europe and Asia are further along in the process, or moving more
rapidly, than in the United States. Since population ageing affects so many
aspects of public life — acute and long-term health care needs; pensions, work
and retirement; transportation; housing — there is a lot of potential for
learning from each other’s experience.

OUR
VIEW & Conclusions for the forthcoming years:
Across Europe, the structural rise in the demand for elderly care beds
continues to outweigh the growth in supply. Furthermore, much of the current
existing supply, while not necessarily obsolete, is in real need of
modernisation. Although supply concerns are being compounded by current
austerity in state funding for social care, the acute requirement for inward
investment into healthcare makes a compelling case for investors. As the sector
matures into a core asset class, we have increasingly advised on a number of
cross-border healthcare investment deals. New
funding structures and care models are now emerging as major European providers
begin acquiring complementary portfolios across the Europe. Healthcare’s
attractive return on capital is expected to draw a broader churn of investors
over the next 12 -24 months, ranging from independent operators, private
equity, lenders, funds, and institutions. As UK targets dry up, we fully expect
investors, particularly US REITs (real estate investment
trust ),
to begin exploring options on the Continent.
Healthcare Predictions
Worldwide
Globally, 2020/2021 will be a year of value-based care
as we expect the ‘outcomes-based care’ focus to globalize. This will trigger
the maturation of new investments in Health. Furthermore, access to affordable
and quality care will be key political agendas for upcoming elections in
emerging markets such as Asia, Africa and, Central and Eastern European
countries. As the lines between retail, IT and healthcare industries continue
to blur, during 2021, Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon (GAFA) in the West,
and Baidu, Ali Health, Tencent (BAT) in East will start to dominate the
Individual Care space. Non-traditional digital marketplace providers such as
Ali Health, Tencent, Amazon, Google, Apple, Microsoft, and IBM among other will
dominate the home health space, providing the required impetus to public health
systems to ensure accessibility and affordability of care.
Finally, we anticipate 2021 will be a reality check
for two of the most hyped technologies for the healthcare of this decade, viz.
artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain. We predict that Digital health
tech catering to out of hospital will grow, and Innovative Private Insurance
Models would Shake up Healthcare Payer
Industry. There is no denial that health insurance policies available today are
aged
and often fail to meet the personalized needs of
individuals.
